With David Cockayne at the helm, the Modular Group turned in an award-winning performance to win the Ernst & Young Manufacturers’ League annual award for growth. Along with a prize of £5,000 it was presented at a ceremony held at the Burne-Jones Exhibition in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The speakers at the presentation ceremony were John Butcher, Chairman of the Institute of Directors, and Peter Snape, labour MP for West Bromwich. The Manufacturers’ League is run in association with the Institute of Directors and sponsored by Ernst & Young, Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance, and Dibb Lupton Alsop. It was launched in September 1997 and is aimed at companies with annual sales of between £1 million and £100 million. | At the presentation ceremony Mr Ronnie Bowker, office managing partner at Ernst & Young in Birmingham, said, “The growth of Modular Industries shows just what contribution the owner-managed business in the Midlands makes to the local economy.” We set the league up to encourage medium-sized businesses to attain the standards of some of the larger manufacturing companies in the Midlands who operate successfully in the global marketplace.” “We saw a rapid expansion in demand on the back of our reputation for quality, and the needs of the manufacturing industry to respond to competitive pressures by investing in the latest technology” says David. | Mr David Cockayne, Chief Executive of Modular Group (right), winners or the Ernst & Young Manufacturers's League, with Gary Beresford, Director of Entrepreneurial Services at Ernst & Young, Birmingham |
